Workshop on
"Launching Project Implementation of Cambodian Independent Teachers' Association" to Uphold the teachers' Rights, Provided by European Commission
Cambodian Independent Teachers Association (CITA) proposes an advocacy training program to train teacher representatives from all 24 Provinces in Cambodia in human rights advocacy procedures. 2% of the 78 000 teacher population of Cambodia will be selected to participate in one of 30 training workshops run over 9 months in 9 centrally located provinces. These trainers will strengthen their existing role as members of a structured support and communication network, to become human rights defenders and monitors of school administration procedures.
Together with a program of workshops, CITA aims to develop a monthly newsletter, to be distributed to teachers in Cambodia over a 12 month period. This publication will give updates of current CITA campaigns, detail issues facing teachers in schools and explain procedures for dealing with human rights offences in schools. The newsletter aims to raise awareness of human rights and democratic practises currently absent from most Cambodian schools. The highest possible circulation of this newsletter will have the maximum effect in raising awareness of teachers' rights across the country.
These two actions will combine to have the maximum impact in potentially reaching the 78 000 teachers across the country, to raise awareness of human rights and democratisation issues in Cambodian schools.
